This region of the Northeast is characterized by long stretches of sandy beach, rugged headlands, and mighty castles. Over a distance of 40 miles, we maintain about 11 miles of coastline.

Introduction:

That’s Lindisfarne’s walled garden and grounds, with Ros Castle and St. Cuthbert’s Cave on the mainland. The intriguing species that call our sites home include the red squirrel, adder, avocet, and marsh harrier, and their habitats range from wildflower-rich dunes to lowland meadows to fens to woodlands to uplands.

There are eight of us working in the countryside, including a Gardener, and we get along great. While the Farne Islands NNR will be your primary focus, you will also spend time at the Northumberland Coast village of Low Newton-by-the-Sea. You will be reporting to the Countryside Manager and collaborating with the current Area Ranger for the Farnes, as well as mainland colleagues and those responsible for the Tyne Valley and Hadrian’s Wall.
The Culture of the Company:The Farnes are an incredible archipelago just off the breathtaking Northumberland coast. They are swarmed by nesting birds in the summer since they are one of the most important seabird breeding locations in the United Kingdom. The puffin, guillemot, razorbill, kittiwake, fulmar, shag, and eider are just few of the birds that breed there. The islands host one of the largest colonies of Atlantic grey seals in the United Kingdom. In the months of October through January, the islands are overrun with adorable white seal pups.

Job Duties and Overview:

• As one of two Area Rangers, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day implementation of our land management initiatives across the Farne Islands. You will create and oversee efficient and adaptable seasonal work schedules for employees and volunteers.
• You will help your team achieve land management and conservation goals by participating in engagement and conservation efforts. Help ensure that promises are kept and services are rendered
• You will create and execute low-budget projects and organize volunteer efforts to boost our capacity in a safe and efficient manner.
• Your enthusiasm will motivate others to appreciate this stunning region as much as you do.
• You’ll be responsible for ensuring the access infrastructure always looks great and well-maintained.
• You will network professionally with coworkers, contractors, tenants, and nearby property managers.
• Working certain nights, weekends, and holidays is a requirement of this position.

Eligibility Criteria/About the Candidate

• Experience in creating and delivering work programmes to achieve conservation and access objectives Experience in managing minor projects and supervising contractors
• Possess effective written and oral communication skills along with strong numeracy and data-handling abilities.
• Superb interpersonal and relationship-building abilities. And a team player par excellence with a track record of managing direct reports in the workplace
• Able to write risk assessments and safety and environmental procedures, and take the lead in ensuring compliance
• A genuine interest in nature, history, and the outdoors; the ability to connect with guests and help them appreciate our efforts.
• Possessing a valid, full UK driver’s license is a plus.
