Job Duties and Overview:
- Manages incoming calls and client inquiries by answering their questions. Contacts with stakeholders, taxpayers, lawmakers, and other internal parties are all part of this.
- Meets with clients who are unhappy with service or are going through a tough time. Conducts client interviews to gather information for the goal of identifying
- Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) criteria and to clarify the issues. Does their best to rectify the customer’s incorrect assumptions to the best of their ability.
- Describes the outcomes of consumer activities and provides them with various alternatives. Uses the Service’s internal forms and worksheets to fulfill consumer requests.
- Evaluates, reviews, and analyzes case-related material received in TAS, as well as initial client interaction, in accordance with the Internal Revenue Manual (IRM)
- 13. Completes all incoming casework according to management guidelines and specified timeframes after receiving evaluations and establishing basic controls.
- Customers, their representatives, other IRS departments, and TAS offices initiate the receipts, which can be made in person, over the phone, or through electronic or paper mail.
- Addresses constituent concerns by reviewing and processing questions received from Congress, the White House, and other priority entities. Proposes suitable referrals for cases that do not meet the criteria.
- Verifies that all cases received from other TAS offices adhere to TAS transfer processing criteria. Ensures that the right office receives transfers that are not appropriate.
- Researches and interprets relevant data, including master file records, tax account history, etc., to take actions to resolve more complex taxpayer problems or suspend actions. Applies knowledge of relevant databases, such as Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS), Taxpayer Advocate Management Information
- System (TAMIS), Servicewide Electronic Research Program (SERP), and others. Uses the ICP System and/or TAMIS to enter customer data as specified in IRM 13, and then opens IDRS controls.
