Job Duties and Overview:

  • Constantly keeps an eye on the allocated patient and makes sure they’re hearing and responding appropriately.
  • Files observation reports on a regular basis.
  • Shows initiative in providing assistance or meeting needs in a compassionate manner. Greetings and assists coworkers, patients, and visitors with a smile and a helping hand.
  • Unless relieved by a suitable member of staff, stays by assigned patient’s side during shift.
  • Talks the patient out of dangerous habits.
  • If a patient seems to be in danger or in medical crisis, the caregiver should seek advice or assistance immediately and notify the appropriate medical staff.
  • Takes part in a team effort to find and report patient safety hazards. Maintains a risk-free environment for patients and notifies the charge nurse of any potential dangers. Eliminates obvious dangers and files reports as needed.
  • When a patient is agitated or confused, helps calm them down and gets them back on track.
  • Helps maintain a safe and organized environment in the patient’s room.
  • Follows patient to the lab when necessary for diagnosis.
  • Notifies the nursing team right away if the patient needs help, control, or any other nursing interventions, or if they act strangely or say strange things. Please notify the nurse right away if you observe something that could be harmful, such as talking about sensitive topics.
  • At the end of each shift, and upon arrival at the unit, takes part in the hand-off of any relevant patient information or behavior. Makes arrangements with the nurse for coverage during meal breaks and notifies the nurse before leaving the patient for any reason.

Eligibility Criteria/About the Candidate

  • Please include your high school diploma, GED, or its equivalent.
  • Must have current CPR, AED, or BLS-HCP certification within 30 days of hire, unless facility policy states otherwise.
  • Be able to stand or walk for long periods of time. Must be able to bend, crouch, reach, and lift objects weighing up to fifty pounds.
  • Prior work experience of one to two years is ideal.
