Job Duties and Overview:

• As needed, help the chief and campus police officers by teaching and directing designated staff members in their duties.
• Create, update, submit, and issue a wide range of papers, such as crime report forms, daily logs, dispatches, field contacts, restraining orders, and data on crimes.
• Conduct searches, gather and preserve evidence, interview victims, complainants, and witnesses; apprehend criminals; and investigate occurrences, crimes, suspicious persons, and vehicles.
• Respond to activations of the fire and burglar alarms; investigate and enforce the use of facilities without authorization; open and secure the campus.
• Ensure compliance with all policies, laws, and regulations at the college, county, state, and federal levels.
• Direct and take part in vehicular and foot patrols of designated locations and the university as a whole.
• Take care of medical, animal, crowd, traffic, and auto service calls among others.
• Hand out money that is legally tender, including parking machines’ receipts, state checks, and so on.
• Make welfare checks, issue fines for traffic and parking violations, and conduct traffic stops.
• The ability to operate a wide range of safety and office equipment is essential, including but not limited to the following: two-way radio, pepper spray, baton,
• handcuffs, digital camera, automated external defibrillator (AED), computer, and any other equipment that may be assigned.
• Make sure the right people are responding to emergencies by coordinating with police agencies, and deal with threats by working with the right people.

Eligibility Criteria/About the Candidate

• Acquire knowledge of one’s authority and adhere to it.
• Spell, punctuate, and use the proper vocabulary.
• Get along well with people and keep that rapport going strong so that you can accomplish tasks together.
• Successfully completed the necessary California P.O.S.T. requirements, such as graduating from a California P.OS.T. academy within the last 36 months and meeting the minimal medical standards defined by P.O.S.T., or holding a California P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate;
• Additional college-level education in criminal psychology or a closely related discipline after high school graduation;
• Students at community colleges come from a wide range of backgrounds, including socioeconomic status, culture, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnicity. It is important to demonstrate that you understand and are responsive to these diverse backgrounds in order to implement practices that are equity-
• minded. Additionally, you must complete a school police officer course within two years of starting your job.
