The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Protection Division’s activities by performing the following functions and responsibilities under the general supervision of the IOM Qatar Head of Office and Senior Protection Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Project Officer (Cultural Mediator/Interpreter):

Job Duties and Overview:

• Accurately interpret between Dari and/or Pashto and English during Protection activities and MHPSS activities, allowing IOM Protection Division Staff to speak with Afghan evacuees at CAS and vice versa.
• When requested by Protection/MHPSS personnel, accompany guests to appointments or meetings (such as medical visits) to give interpretation/translation support.
• Provide accurate and timely written translations from English into Dari and/or Pashto (and vice versa) for the Protection/MHPSS units.
• Keep all records secure and private, as required by applicable conduct and data protection regulations.
• Apply humanitarian principles in all duties, as well as a gender, age and diversity-sensitive approach.
• Organize and lead cultural awareness sessions with protection/MHPSS and partner workers to help them become more interculturally competent.
• Use the SMART CAMP SYNC App to keep track of appointments / requests entered into the system by protection / MHPSS personnel, and help compile daily, quarterly, and annual reports for the donor.
• Help the Complaint and Feedback Mechanism staff with translation and interpretation as needed.
• Carry out any additional responsibilities that arise.

Eligibility Criteria/About the Candidate

• Applicants should have either a high school diploma and five years of relevant work experience, or a Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant work experience in a field like political science, sociology, international relations, development studies, migration studies, human rights, law, or a related field from an accredited university.

   

• Gained practical experience working with vulnerable community members and those with special requirements.
• Expertise in assisting migrants and/or working in the migration field.
• Working knowledge of transit centers and resettlement programs is a plus.
• Prior interpreting and/or translating experience; Experience working in a fast-paced, multi-cultural setting.
