You, as a Traffic Engineer, have as your ultimate goal making ensuring that the roads we construct are safe and efficient for drivers. You will work with teams in Canada and the US to develop traffic engineering plans for design/build jobs across the continent.

Job Duties and Overview:

  • Coordinate the production and delivery of traffic engineering components for projects in North America involving numerous design teams.
  • Take command when it comes to traffic modeling, analysis, and design.
  • Conduct capacity evaluations, traffic counts on routes to evaluate traffic volume and manage Traffic investigations in the field.
  • Use traffic modeling and simulation programs like Synchro/SimTraffic, Vissim, HCS, and others to test out potential changes to real-world traffic patterns.
  • Make improvements to traffic safety suggestions based on data collected in the field.
  • Create routes for traffic lights, signs (for cities, highways, and rural areas), and other markings.
  • Bicycle infrastructure planning (spatial markings, geometry).
  • Geometrical layout design, including turn-by-turn virtual prototyping.
  • Develop efficient traffic engineering solutions, check for compliance with feasibility and safety concerns, and analyze complex design and construction phasing plans.
  • Develop traffic signal, signing, and striping design concepts and alternatives; carry out project’s final traffic design, including traffic signals, ITS, signing, and striping plans, and maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans.
  • Take charge of coordinating the designs of specialists working on the project to make sure everything fits together.
  • Drive technical discussions and coordinate solutions to design problems in project meetings.

Eligibility Criteria/About the Candidate

  • Experience in traffic-related roles, as described above, for at least five years on transportation projects.
  • Engineers in Canada are needed to have a bachelor’s degree or higher in civil engineering.
  • Expertise in building traffic control design, the Roadside Design Guide, and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • Possessing proven expertise in designing transportation-related traffic signals, signs, and stripesFamiliarity with traffic modeling and simulation tools such as
  • Synchro/SimTraffic, Vissim, HCS, Aimsun, and others
  • Possessing prior experience creating MOT Plans is preferred.
  • Prior experience creating building blueprints for transportation projects is a plus.
  • The majority of work will be done in the Burnaby office, but you’ll also need to be ready to travel to various North American locations and attend meetings as required.
